And although I’ve joked for years about being a “goat herder extraordinaire,” the term stockman probably fits better.

Livestock have been a part of my life since I got my first bucket calf at 3 years old.

From feeding and managing animals, to judging livestock shows, developing feed programs, working with exhibitors, and studying how nutrition affects the entire animal, this industry has shaped much of who I am.

Over the years, one thing became very clear:
Good livestock are not built through shortcuts.

They are built through balance, consistency, observation, practical nutrition, and understanding how all the systems within an animal work together.

That philosophy is what eventually led to the development of OAO.

OAO has been publicly available since 2024, but the feeding philosophy and development behind it go back much further than that.

The use of barley as part of the nutritional approach began back in the 1990s. Over time, years of feeding livestock, observing results, and adjusting programs led to a deeper focus on supporting the entire animal instead of simply chasing one extreme trait.

Because livestock are not machines.
They are living systems.

When one system is pushed too hard to create one specific result, it can sometimes negatively affect something else in the process. Increased muscle expression can come at the expense of freshness, flexibility, digestion, appetite, bloom, or overall balance.

OAO was developed with a different goal in mind:
Balance the entire animal.

The product spent 7 years being developed, tested, adjusted, and refined before it was ever offered outside a close personal circle. The objective was never to create a “magic powder” or shortcut. The objective was to support livestock through better nutritional balance and support systems throughout the animal.

One of the things I am proudest of is the consistency OAO has shown across different genetics, feeds, management styles, and regions.

When fed at recommended levels, OAO has shown positive results without adverse side effects.

Good livestock feeding is not about forcing one trait at the expense of the whole animal.

It is about helping good livestock reach their genetic potential through practical nutrition, balance, and consistency.
